"Cyclops" by Euripides at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus

Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3, 2013 "Cyclops" by Euripides at the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus. The play starts at 9.00 pm Vasilis Papavasileiou directs the Cyclops, the only one of Euripides’ satyric dramas to have come down to us intact. The play deals with the trials and tribulations which Odysseus and his comrades suffer at the hands of Polyphemus the Cyclops. When Odysseus, a cunning and resourceful hero, washes up storm-tossed and exhausted on the island of the Cyclopes, he finds himself pitted against a society rooted in the most primitive instincts. The chorus of satyrs set the tone in a tale packed with comic elements in which human intelligence, quick wits and ingenuity defeat brute force and savage violence.
